SMI S.p.A. and the other SMI Group's companies have been considering sustainable development as an essential value of their corporate mission, aiming at creating a close harmony between industrial activity, product quality, respect for the environment and work safety.
The SMI Group's companies have adopted a Quality-Environment integrated management system in compliance with UNI EN ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System) and UNI EN ISO 14001:2015 (Environment Management System).
The compliance with regulations regarding quality and environment is integrated to the adoption of a Security Management System in compliance with UNI EN ISO 45001:2018 regulation.
This integration is aimed at creating a unified vision of the company system, able to improve the visibility of common goals and optimize the company management, by adopting a single reference for data documentation and processing, reduce costs and have a better integration of skills.
The attention paid by SMI to safety is evidenced by the fact that it has recently obtained the certificate of compliance with directive 2014/68/EU applied to the ECOBLOC® ERGON 4-14-4 HC EV model, PC18080IF2080, commonly known as PED, by TÜV InterCert, one of the most prestigious certification, inspection and testing bodies.
This recognition certifies the full compliance of the pressure equipment with the essential safety and health protection requirements.
In addition to safety, a key role is played by sustainable development and environmental protection, in which the SMI Group's companies are particularly active, through different actions, like the replacement of plastic components of the machines with steel parts deriving from waste material, renewal of the company car fleet with new electric vehicles generating low CO₂ emissions, the regular measurement of greenhouse gases emitted and interventions for reducing its carbon footprint (for instance the use of eco-friendly materials and the development of new products with low consumption), according to the guidelines stated in ISO 14064-1.
The commitment of the SMI Group's companies in projects for energy saving and support to territory is also relevant, as show the: hydroelectric power station with installed power of 1 MW fed by Brembo river and controlled by SMIENERGIA, that produces green energy addressed both to the SMI Group's facility and national distribution network, assembly plants photovoltaic roofing with installed power of 1.5 MW, solar thermal system for heating the water used for the company’s services, lighting through low-energy consumption LED lamps and an air conditioning system within the working environment, providing in summer natural cooling through use of fresh air from the hydroelectric power plant and in winter heating thanks to heat generators.
